Our holiday cottage is near the beach and South Devon coast
Our part of South Devon covers one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the UK from Dartmouth to Plymouth. Much of the coastal area is owned by the National Trust and designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are near the South West coastal path with exhilarating cliff top walks and beaches.
Beaches near Princes Farmhouse Granary self catering cottage
There is always plenty to do, you can walk the coastal path or take a dip in the sea at the sandy bays at Bovisand a 15 minutes walk , even enjoy a rock pool ramble or surf at the Wembury Marine Conservation centre which is just five minutes drive away or a twenty minute walk along the coast path.
Wembury Bay has a National Trust ‘Old Mill’ cafe, a romantic cliff top church, St Werburghs and island just offshore called the Mewstone.
Along the coast to the East is the river Yealm estuary and yachting haven of Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo. You can catch a small passenger ferry from the Wembury side of the Yealm at Wembury Warren Point and cross the estuary to either Newton Ferrers or Noss Mayo during the summer by waving to the ferry man from the landing stage!
There are three notable pubs in estuary. The Dolphin, the Swan and the Ship. All have great waterside views!
Bird watching on the Devon coast
There is an abundance of bird life close to Princes Farm including Cirl Buntings.
Plymouth
To the West is historic Plymouth Sound, with the majestic Hoe, numerous harbours and contemporary restaurants. Plymouth is one of Englands largest cities with all the attractions to match, including a major producing Theatre and National Marine Aquarium. The award winning 18c Royal William Yard, is one of the UK’s largest Grade I groups of buildings. It is where the Navy made its beer and baked food supplies. This ex-Naval victualing yard is home to a diverse range of leading restaurants, bars, galleries, shops and a unique range events – from food markets, theatre and outdoor cinemas through to live music.
Boat trips
There are numerous daily boat trips you can take to explore Plymouth Sound and the Tamar from near the Mayflower steps on the Barbican. From deep sea fishing and eco wildlife trips to scenic naval harbour trips and river cruises. Our favourite is steaming up the wooded valleys of the Tamar river to Calstock where the Victorian Farm series was filmed at nearby Morwhellam Quay.
